Movies and blogging

I'm loving the library movies - we are picking up several that we would probably never have gotten had we gone to Blockbuster.

Last night we watched Blood Diamonds - another to remind us how blessed we are here in Canada - and how little I know about the world around me. I am trying to be a bit more aware, but I know I tend to be self absorbed and to be honest - when this movie took place, I had no idea the troubles going on in Africa.

And now Drew would like to say that "Tonight's was good, but that would be a lie - it was "okay"". He woud be referring to "Saving Sarah Cain", a Michael Landon Jr production. I liked it - simple, redeeming; a good clean movie.
Note: It advertised another MLJr movie "Love's Unending Promise" - a book I loved as a teen. I will be looking for it soon.

Watching movies that aren't so intense also allows me to do a bit of catch-up on the 365. I finally got all of the "Days" corrected. Now I just need to add the photos. Getting there!

Weekend getaway

We spent a lovely weekend away with our friends Mid D and Little D and their kids at their cottage. It is on a remote little island in the middle of Georgian Bay without electricity. We arrived mid evening Saturday and stayed until noon Monday so that the kids could get back for a birthday party.

Surprisingly, the no-electricity thing was kind of refreshing. (The company was pretty good too).

Drew made us breakfast each day on the propane stove.

The kids wore their life jackets most of the weekend (The island is mainly rock, slippery and steep in some places) - and spend most of the time exploring, picking berries,
climbing trees,

and swimming.

We saw lots of wildlife - frogs, huge tadpoles, birds, garter snake, a water or fox snake and bats.

The kids asked repeatedly to go to the small cabin where they went up and down the ladder to check out the loft.

All in all though, a nice relaxing weekend (other than the bats), great company (if they still like us) and it did make us appreciate all that we have. I admit though, it made us wish our own cottage was just a little bit closer.
Thanks D's!

Peace and freedom.

I sit here at 9:37 am with nothing I have to do! A BUSY week of camp is done and I can breathe again. The kids are playing nicely!!! together upstairs. I have no daycare and no agenda for today. Wow! I just made myself chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and will contemplate reading? blog surfing? flylady catch-up? This is strange. There is so much I want to journal about though. It's been another crazy month and since we were up to TBay we haven't really caught up yet. But it will come. One day at a time. And for now I will enjoy the peace - for as long as it lasts!

RETRACTION
Suffice it to say that saying that I have/had nothing to do today didn't go over well on the homefront. Not when the garage is a shambles, there is clutter everywhere (albeit somewhat organized on shelving - and hey - I am working on it!) and the plastic bags for recycling are driving someone sufficiently nuts. Lesson learned. It was more that I didn't have a specific deadline for anything right then but have no fear - I do now. Those plastic bags will be out by the morning! And it looks like tomorrow will be a garage day. It may have been short but it sure was sweet! Sorry hun!

Over and out!

Summer BINGO update

Week one is just about over and so far, with a few tweeks I think this is going to work well. It is now 10:00 in the morning and the kids are busy playing with playdough - I didn't think we'd be doing this on the weekend but since Drew is at a golf tournament and the kids are inspired - why not? It gives me time to get Cierra's stuff for camp ready.

Tweeks?
Playdates - I had already planned some for next week so I let that one slide
We were gone for the majority of a few days so I'm going to make some squares a little easier to accomplish.
Definitely the 9-5 thing - otherwise they are out of sorts for the bedtime/ regular routine.
LOVING the reading squares - at least with Matt. Got to get Marlee more motivated!

Speaking of camp - Yikes! It's only 2 weeks a way and staff training is on Wednesday. We just discovered we are a few counsellors short so we're not sure what we are going to do. Ratio-wise techinically we are okay - just not able to spilt the kids up the way we like to do it. I'm also doing this curriculum for sunday school so hopefully I will be on the ball for the activities. Now if I could just find that DVD........!!!!!

Movies

Getting back into the swing of watching some movies (so much to see, so little time!)

We watched Twilight last night - I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't too sure about thewhole vampire thing but it was more about the teen angst. We had a few good laughs. Oh to be that caught up in love!!! Poor Drew - he is so much more the romantic then me!

(I think I do want to read the books now though!)

Tonight we watched P.S. I love You. I had heard it was quite good but while I enjoyed it, it icertinaly isn't on my Top 10. Granted I was distracted (preparing sunday school curriculum) but it really just didn't "Grab" me. Oh well - we'll see what else is next.
